Georg Philipp Telemann og Johann Sebastian Bach stod hinanden nær, der var kun fire års forskel mellem dem i alder, og de boede som unge nær hinanden i henholdsvis Weimar og Eisenach. Da Bachs næstældste søn, Carl Philipp Emanuel, skulle døbes, blev Telemann hans gudfar. De tre hentede inspiration hos hinanden. Ved denne koncert opføres tre af Telemanns koncerter. Disse koncerter for mange soloinstrumenter kan også bringe Bachs Brandenburg-koncerter i erindring.

J.S. Bachs koncert for cembalo i A-dur er præget af stor dynamik – den veksler mellem solopassager og såkaldte ritorneller, dvs. gentagelser af passager fra indledningen med fuldt orkester. Den langsomme midtersats har en lyrisk, lidt melankolsk tone med behersket orkesterledsagelse til cembaloet. Afslutningssatsen er fejende flot med temaer fra orkestret, der gribes af cembaloet og samtidig giver solisten gode muligheder for at brillere. C. Ph. E. Bachs trisonate i c-mol med tilnavnet Sanguinis & Melancholicus tilsigter at illustrere to temperamenter, det sangvinske (dvs. lyrisk-overoptimistiske) og det melankolske (det tungsindige).

Onsdag den 27/3 är det dags för “riktig” konsert med Woodpeckers i Palladiums Guldfoajé. Woodpeckers packar då upp hela sin blockflöjtsbuffé med spännande verk som spänner över 600 år. Utdrag från Bachs Kunst der Fuge varvas med uruppföranden av Bunnskog och Österling toppat med virtuos musik av Vivaldi och Meijering. Woodpeckers blockflöjtskvartett består av fyra unga, nordiska blockflöjtsvirtuoser:

European Day of Early Music Copenhagen

A new festive day is born in Europe – European Day of Early Music!

On 21 March 2013, REMA (Réseau Européen de Musique Ancienne / European Early Music Network) will organise its European Day of Early Music for the very first time.
With concerts, conferences, and other events taking place simultaneously all over the continent, the day will be a living memorial to the European historical musical heritage with the aim of promoting early music to a wide audience.
21 March coincides with the birthday of Johann Sebastian Bach, and also with the beginning of spring.

All day long from 16.00-24.00 it will be celebrated with concerts in KoncertKirken, Blågårds Plads, Copenhagen N.

Pernille is joining in on the last concert called Late Night Early Music from 23.00.

New Videos with Izar Melting Pot Ensemble

A melting pot of cultures and history
What can 14th century music teach us about contemporary globalization and about the political and cultural array and exchange of today?

Izar Melting Pot Ensemble has just made some beautiful new videos:

Izar Melting Pot Ensemble presents to you an alternative musical view on history; past and present. Izar interacts through music directly with the audience about melting pot scenarios in past and present societies and cultures.

Izar plays both catchy and complex medieval, renaissance and Middle East compositions a.o. from an approximately 600 years old Italian source, the French medieval source ‘Manuscript du Roi’ and from arabic traditions.

To this, the ensemble adds melodies from Nordic folk and mixes it all with improvisation. The music communicates over a period of approximately 1000 years. Ancient dance, swing and folk assimilate with present aesthetics and improvisation.

The aim is also to recreate the feeling of possibilities that led to the development of western music in Italy. Medieval Italy was strongly influenced by the presence of Arabic culture in Europe which you can hear clearly in the music that we know from our medieval passovers.

No one knows exactly how this music sounded, but with our melting pot we recreate a possible band that could have been in Italy around late 14th century. Arabic oud, drums, flutes and hurdy gurdy bubbles vividly like an ensemble in the melting pot and the timbres coming from the pot reminds us of present globalization and of the cultural array and exchange of today.

The opening awareness
The thriving environment awareness of the early Italian renaissance reminds us of important areas on the contemporary 21th century globalization. We can compare the open minded radical change of view that took place in the early renaissance – primarily started by crusades and trade – with our present global situation.

A situation which is kickstarted primarily due to the fast sharing flow of global information from the internet. The result was – then as now – a rebirth of an environment awareness which was deeply inspired to break up and develop socially and culturally.

By recreating the music from the early renaissance Italian melting pot, Izar passes on an important musical essence which especially today in our globalized world makes good sense to listen to. It’ll help us to approximate and to develop an abstract understanding of the tendencies and possibilities of our present globalized world.

The band: Izar Melting Pot Ensemble
The group is originally a duo consisting of Pernille Petersen (recorders) and Magnus Olsen Majmon (percussion).

In 2013/14 the group expands their concerts with the great Palestinian music composer and oud player currently living in Denmark: Guest star performer Bilal Irshed (Oud).

Furthermore Izar occasionally includes the medieval music expert Søren Hammerlund on hurdy gurdy/mandola and for some concerts a visual element will be added to support our storytelling.

Izar will have their first concert this year on April 5th at 19.30 in KoncertKirken, Blågårds Plads, Copenhagen, Denmark
